Ontario Premier Doug Ford officially launched construction of the new Ontario Science Centre this week in Toronto, marking the start of one of the province’s most significant cultural infrastructure projects in decades. The facility will be located at Ontario Place on the Lake Ontario waterfront.
The project is being delivered by the Ontario Science Partners (OSP) consortium, made up of Sacyr Infrastructure Canada, John Laing, and Amico Major Projects. The consortium will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the complex — from design and construction through long-term operation and maintenance — under a 30-year contract.
For our member Sacyr, this is a landmark achievement: its first concession in the Canadian market. The project aligns with the company’s strategic goal of growing its international concessions portfolio in English-speaking countries, and consolidates its position as a global player in public infrastructure. Construction will be carried out by a joint venture between Sacyr and Amico, based on a design by the renowned Canadian firm Hariri Pontarini Architects in collaboration with the internationally acclaimed studio Snøhetta.
The new Science Centre will replace the original facility closed in 2024 and will include renovations to the iconic Pods and Cinesphere structures at Ontario Place. The project incorporates ambitious sustainability goals, including LEED Silver certification and improved energy performance. Part of a broader regeneration of Ontario Place, it aims to become a modern cultural hub and one of Canada’s top tourist destinations, while generating long-term employment for the local community.
El primer ministro de Ontario, Doug Ford, inauguró oficialmente esta semana en Toronto las obras del nuevo Ontario Science Centre, marcando el inicio de uno de los proyectos de infraestructura cultural más importantes de la provincia en las últimas décadas. Las instalaciones se ubicarán en Ontario Place, a orillas del lago Ontario.
El proyecto lo ejecuta el consorcio Ontario Science Partners (OSP), formado por Sacyr Infrastructure Canada, John Laing y Amico Major Projects. El nuevo Science Centre sustituirá a las instalaciones originales cerradas en 2024 e incluirá la renovación de los emblemáticos Pods y el Cinesphere de Ontario Place. El proyecto incorpora ambiciosos objetivos de sostenibilidad, entre ellos la certificación LEED Silver y mejoras en el rendimiento energético.
