Mining in Spain 2026. Innovation. Exploration. Opportunity – Analizando y fomentando el sector de la minería

Ayer, día 2 de marzo de 2026, con motivo del Business Breakfast de Mining in Spain 2026. Innovation. Exploration. Opportunity que tuvo lugar en Toronto, la Cámara de Comercio de España en Canadá tuvo la oportunidad de colaborar en el mismo. Organizado gracias a ICEX Economic and Commercial Office of Spain en Ottawa y generosamente alojada por Gowling WLG, el evento se convirtió en un encuentro estratégico gracias a la reunión de los representantes internacionales, inversores, analíticos, y profesionales del sector de la minería como voces líderes de la industria.

Con el fin de analizar y fomentar la mejora del sector y el destino del mismo, la jornada tuvo el placer de empezar con la bienvenida de Alfredo Martínez Serrano, Embajador de España en Canadá, quien dio comienzo al evento destacando la importancia del sector minero y a quien siguió la introducción de los panelistas por parte de Matthew Bernardo, como anfitrión del evento de parte de Gowling WLG.

Durante la jornada, el acontecimiento tuvo la oportunidad de presenciar a los diferentes panelistas y las múltiples visiones de la industria minera donde abordaron temas clave: 

  • Panel 1 “Technology: Innovation driving Spain’s mining future”, el cual estuvo moderado por Rodrigo del Potro, Business Development Manager en Xcalibur – Smart Mapping, con invitados especiales a participar como speakers Jaime Perena (CEO USA & Canada, Halotech Digital Services), Juan Lorenzo Tallafigo (director tecnológico, Lain Technologies) y Martí De Riquer Gatell (director comercial, Meteosim). 

  • Panel 2 “Exploring Spain: From Geology to Opportunity”, moderado por César Luaces, director general de Primigea, con la participación de speakers destacables como David Gower (CEO, Emerita Resources) y James Siddorn (Executive Chair, SRK Consulting Norte América Inc.)

Asimismo, el programa contó con la participación destacada de César Luaces, como keynote speaker, al Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Desafío Demográfico, junto con la Dirección General de la Política Energética y Minas y el IGME (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España).

Mining in Spain 2026. Innovation. Exploration. Opportunity – Analyzing and Promoting the Mining Sector

Yesterday, March 2, 2026, on the occasion of the Mining in Spain 2026. Innovation. Exploration. Opportunity. Business Breakfast held in Toronto, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Canada had the opportunity to collaborate in the event. Organized thanks to the ICEX Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Ottawa and generously hosted by Gowling WLG, the gathering became a strategic forum by bringing together international representatives, investors, analysts, and mining sector professionals as leading voices of the industry.

With the aim of analyzing and further promoting the development and positioning of the sector, the event had the pleasure of opening with welcoming remarks by Alfredo Martínez Serrano, Ambassador of Spain in Canada, who highlighted the importance of the mining industry. He was followed by the introduction of the panelists by Matthew Bernardo, who acted as host of the event on behalf of Gowling WLG.

Throughout the morning, attendees had the opportunity to hear from distinguished panelists who shared diverse perspectives on the mining industry and addressed key topics shaping the sector.

  • Panel 1, “Technology: Innovation Driving Spain’s Mining Future,” was moderated by Rodrigo del Potro, Business Development Manager at Xcalibur – Smart Mapping, and featured keynote speakers Jaime Perena (CEO USA & Canada, HALOTECH DIGITAL SERVICES), Juan Lorenzo Tallafigo (Technology Director, LAIN TECHNOLOGIES), and Martí De Riquer Gatell (Commercial Director, METEOSIM).
  • Panel 2, “Exploring Spain: From Geology to Opportunity,” was moderated by César Luaces, General Director of PRIMIGEA, and included distinguished speakers such as David Gower (CEO, EMERITA RESOURCES) and James Siddorn (Executive Chair, SRK Consulting (North America) Inc.).

The program also featured a keynote address by César Luaces, as well as contributions from representatives of Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, together with the Directorate-General for Energy and Mining Policy and the IGME (Spanish Geological Survey).
