Last Sunday, June 14th, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Canada, together with Iberia, the Embassy of Spain to Canada, Comunidad de Madrid, the Ayuntamiento de Madrid, Turismo España and IFEMA Madrid, came together to celebrate a historic milestone in the bilateral relationship between Spain and Canada: the launch of Iberia’s new direct route between Toronto and Madrid.
The event, held at the impressive Hotel RIU in Toronto, kicked off at 12:30 PM with a lively networking reception that brought together business leaders and representatives from the most prominent institutions within the Spanish-Canadian community.
Following this opening reception, Juan Cierco, representing Iberia, took the floor and highlighted the strategic importance of this new direct air connection in strengthening trade and human ties between both countries. He was followed by Carlos Planelles, President of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Canada, who emphasized the route’s key role in boosting business activity and investment opportunities between Spain and Canada. Ambassador of Spain to Canada, Alfredo Martínez, then addressed the audience, conveying Spain’s institutional support for this initiative and underscoring this moment as a decisive step forward in the bilateral relationship. Also taking the floor were Luis Martín Izquierdo, Vice Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Madrid Regional Government, and Almudena Maíllo, Tourism Councillor of the Madrid City Council, both of whom highlighted the significance of this new route for promoting Madrid as a leading destination for Canadian travelers and investors.
The event closed with a networking reception featuring the finest Spanish gastronomy, creating the perfect atmosphere for attendees to continue building connections in the elegant surroundings of the Hotel RIU.

El pasado domingo, 14 de junio, la Cámara de Comercio de España en Canadá, junto con Iberia, la Embajada de España en Canadá, la Comunidad de Madrid, el Ayuntamiento de Madrid, Turismo España e IFEMA Madrid, se unieron para celebrar un hito histórico en las relaciones bilaterales entre España y Canadá: el lanzamiento de la nueva ruta directa de Iberia entre Toronto y Madrid.
El evento, acogido en el imponente Hotel RIU de Toronto, arrancó a las 12.30 PM con un animado networking inicial que reunió a empresarios y representantes de las instituciones más destacadas de la comunidad hispano-canadiense.
Tras este encuentro inicial, tomó la palabra Juan Cierco, en representación de Iberia, quien destacó el valor estratégico de esta nueva conexión aérea directa para el fortalecimiento de los lazos comerciales y humanos entre ambos países. A continuación, Carlos Planelles, Presidente de la Cámara de Comercio de España en Canadá, subrayó el papel fundamental que esta ruta jugará en el impulso de la actividad empresarial y las oportunidades de inversión entre España y Canadá. El Embajador de España en Canadá, Alfredo Martínez, trasladó el respaldo institucional de España a esta iniciativa y destacó el momento como un paso decisivo en la relación bilateral. También intervinieron Luis Martín Izquierdo, Viceconsejero de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte de la Comunidad de Madrid, y Almudena Maíllo, Concejala de Turismo del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, quienes subrayaron la importancia de esta nueva ruta para posicionar Madrid como destino de referencia para los viajeros e inversores canadienses.
